Hydropower is clean, emission-free, reliable, renewable, and affordable for future generations. It harnesses the energy of flowing water, utilizing gravity and the water cycle. On Earth, water is continuously moved in various states: it evaporates from the oceans, forms clouds, falls as rain, gathers into rivers and streams, and flows back to the sea. All these movements present significant opportunities to harness useful energy.
All water used to drive the turbines will be returned to its original river path, maintaining the same amount of water as before. The environmental impact is minimal since all water is returned to its source, no chemicals are involved, and no fuel is burned.
In 2011, 16 percent of the world’s electricity is provided by Hydropower, second only to fossil fuels. Worldwide capacity in 2011 was 950 GW, with 24% in China, 8% in the United States, 9% in Brazil and around 13% in Indonesia. Indonesia is blessed with topology and more than enough rainfalls that enables environmental friendly hydropower plants to be built.
